Vase Makeover

You may have seen this idea floating around pinterest and the blog world and I think it’s genius! What an easy way to give a vase, or any glass container for that matter, a new look! I wanted to share my own vase makeover with a little tutorial so you can do it yourself if you want!

First you’ll need some clear vases.. I have several from flowers Calder has given me in all different shapes and sizes (from Acme Gift in Manhattan, KS–best flower shop EVER!)

First, wash out any dust or debris and let them dry.Image

Next choose your paint colors. I just used craft paint from Walmart in grey, navy, and yellow. Choose which color to do first and squirt a big glob of it into the bottom.

Next slowly rotate the vase, letting the paint move around and coating the glass. It works best if you have enough paint to begin with, but I ended up having to add more. It looks the same from the outside but creates a few bumps in the inside if you have to do that.

Once the inside is fully coated (or almost fully coated in my case) turn the vase upside down to let the excess drip out. There is a good chance there will be a lot of excess so make sure to have a decently thick pile of paper towels underneath. Also, if you are concerned about saving as much paint as possible you can hold it upside down and try to let it drip back into the paint container as much as possible before leaving it upside down. I did try to do that a little bit but I wasn’t prepared and didn’t have the lid off so I ended up making a mess haha.

Let drip for at least 20 minutes. When most of the excess is out, flip over right-side-up and allow to dry overnight before you put anything in it. Right now mine are solely for decorative purposes and I wouldn’t put water or living flowers in them. But if I wanted to do that in the future or if you want to do that you could probably coat the inside with a clear varnish. The paint may even be able to have water in it depending on what type of paint you use, but just to be safe I’m only going to put dry things in mine haha.

If you have more vases to do, repeat all the steps with each vase and color you desire! Here are mine finished! I’m really happy with the way they turned out 🙂

Happy Crafting!
